Hexagram 55: Abundance (Fullness)
䷶ 豐 Fēng – The Book of Changes
The Judgment
Abundance intimates progress and development. When a king has reached the point which the name denotes, there is no occasion to be anxious through fear of a change. Let him be as the sun at noon.
The Image
Thunder and lightning combining: the image of Abundance. Thus the superior man decides cases of litigation and apportions punishments with exactness.
Description
Abundance (Feng) shows thunder and lightning together: a peak of fullness, power and brightness. Like the sun at noon, the moment is magnificent and cannot last. There is no reason to be sad about that; shine fully now, act clearly and decisively, and accept the cycle.
The six lines
A line's place shapes its role: 1 the beginning, 2 the center of the inner world, 3 the threshold to the outside, 4 close to power, 5 the ruler's place, 6 the end and the excess. Keep this grid in mind and the line texts become much easier to read. More in the guide →

❤️ What does hexagram 55 mean for relationships and private life?
Life feels full: love, social occasions, plans, perhaps a celebration. Enjoy it wholeheartedly without worrying about whether it will last. Every peak passes, and that's part of its beauty. Use the generous mood to clarify things that have been unclear and to make fair decisions together. Shine for each other while the sun is high; memories made with full attention don't fade.
💼 What does hexagram 55 mean for work and money?
Peak performance: revenue, recognition, influence. Act decisively and judge clearly; this is the moment to settle disputes and make major decisions. Don't waste energy fearing the inevitable decline. Instead, use the abundance to set things right, distribute fairly and prepare foundations. Peaks are for building, not just for celebrating. A clear, fair hand at the height of success leaves a lasting legacy.
🌌 What does hexagram 55 mean for your personal path and spirituality?
Fullness is a teacher too. When everything is bright and abundant, practice gratitude without clinging. The noon sun begins to decline the moment it is highest; accept that rhythm calmly. Bring clarity to inner conflicts while your vision is strong. Enjoy the light while it lasts. Living fully in the present, without anxiety about change, is itself a mark of wisdom.
Nuclear hexagram
Lines 2, 3 and 4 form the lower trigram, lines 3, 4 and 5 the upper one. Leaving out the beginning and the end reveals the core of the situation, what is at work out of sight. It is a secondary aspect, not a second verdict. If it seems to contradict the main hexagram, that happens and is not an error. More in the guide →
Lines 2, 3, 4 and 3, 4, 5 form nuclear hexagram 28, Preponderance of the Great. It shows what is at work beneath the surface – an inner tendency, not a verdict on the situation itself.
Hexagram 28 – Preponderance of the Great
Preponderance of the Great suggests to us a beam that is weak. There will be advantage in moving in any direction whatever; there will be success.
The two trigrams
- Upper, outer: Zhen – Thunder
- The Arousing (Eldest Son). Within, it is the impulse to change, to wake up and break free; without, a sudden jolt that shatters rigidity and sets things moving.
- Lower, inner: Li – Fire
- The Clinging (Middle Daughter). Within, it is clarity, inner vision and passion; without, a light that guides and connects through beauty and meaning.
