Hexagram 11: Peace
䷊ 泰 Tài – The Book of Changes
The Judgment
In Peace we see the little gone and the great come. It indicates that there will be good fortune, with progress and success.
The Image
Heaven and earth in communication together: the image of Peace. Thus the sovereign fashions and completes his regulations after the courses of heaven and earth, and assists the application of the adaptations furnished by them, in order to benefit the people.
Description
Peace (Tai) is heaven and earth in communication: the strong moves inward, the yielding outward, and everything flourishes. It is a time of harmony, cooperation and growth. The task is to use it wisely and keep the balance, because no season lasts forever.
The six lines
A line's place shapes its role: 1 the beginning, 2 the center of the inner world, 3 the threshold to the outside, 4 close to power, 5 the ruler's place, 6 the end and the excess. Keep this grid in mind and the line texts become much easier to read. More in the guide →

❤️ What does hexagram 11 mean for relationships and private life?
Harmony comes easily now. Understanding flows in both directions, quarrels lose their heat, and shared plans move forward. Enjoy it without taking it for granted. Good times are when habits form, so build the ones you want to keep: honest talk, generosity, time together. Use the goodwill to repair any old rifts, while both of you feel open enough to try.
💼 What does hexagram 11 mean for work and money?
Conditions favor growth. Teams work well together, communication between management and staff improves, and good ideas find support. Expand, invest, and launch with confidence, but keep your planning sound. Prosperity tempts people to grow careless; the wise use a good period to strengthen foundations and build reserves. Share success fairly so that cooperation continues once circumstances change.
🌌 What does hexagram 11 mean for your personal path and spirituality?
Everything lines up: insight flows into action, and action feeds insight. This is a good season for gratitude and for consolidating what you have learned. Notice how balance feels in the body and the mind, so you can find your way back to it later. Peace is not a reward to hold on to; it is a rhythm to understand and serve.
Nuclear hexagram
Lines 2, 3 and 4 form the lower trigram, lines 3, 4 and 5 the upper one. Leaving out the beginning and the end reveals the core of the situation, what is at work out of sight. It is a secondary aspect, not a second verdict. If it seems to contradict the main hexagram, that happens and is not an error. More in the guide →
Lines 2, 3, 4 and 3, 4, 5 form nuclear hexagram 54, The Marrying Maiden. It shows what is at work beneath the surface – an inner tendency, not a verdict on the situation itself.
Hexagram 54 – The Marrying Maiden
The Marrying Maiden indicates that, under the conditions which it denotes, action will be evil and in no way advantageous.
The two trigrams
- Upper, outer: Kun – Earth
- The Receptive (Mother). Within, it appears as devotion, patience and support; without, as a nourishing space where forms and ideas take shape.
- Lower, inner: Qian – Heaven
- The Creative (Father). Within, it shows itself as will, resolve and the drive to act; without, as an ordering force that gives direction and structure.
